Requesting a more flexible approach to grid layouts that mirrors the behavior in Figma. Currently, Framer’s grid system is highly optimized for uniform or masonry structured layouts, which is great for CMS. However, it's restrictive for editorial-style, irregular gallery layouts.
The current grid system doesn’t allow for free-form resizing and snapping across multiple columns/rows without breaking the layout flow or bleeding off the canvas, especially when working with high column counts (e.g., 24 columns). Also it's not possible to see the grid unless you manually create individual frames/shapes for each cell and apply fills.
Please add: 1) the ability to grab an element and draw its span across specific grid cells; 2) visual guides that are always visible or appear while moving/resizing, without the need to create placeholder fills; 3) the ability to maintain cell/container aspect ratios relative to the page width without bleeding off the page. Bonus: The ability to redefine these spans per breakpoint would be great too.
Thanks!
